Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness

Dave Harper Foundation
The Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness (BAEH) centre was founded by Kemar Saffrey in February 2010. Back then it was known as The Barbados Vagrant Homeless Society (BVHS). Later, on 20th October 2019 it was officially renamed as The Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness.

The work that the staff do is immense, they deserve so much praise. Some of their activities include:
- Individual counselling
- Mentorship
- Group counselling
- Coping Skills
- Grooming service
- Anger management
- Treatment service
- English classes
- Maths classes
- House placement
- Employment attachment

BAEH also meet with some industries to help get clients back into work, which is where the English and Maths classes come in. They also provide online courses to get clients ready for work.

Having built up a working relationship with the centre, when I visit Barbados I am now able to help out.  I have been overwhelmed with how the staff approach their work.

During my last visit in November 2023, I gave food out to the homeless, a deeply moving experience for me, not least as I didn’t know the reasons for them being in their position.

Below are some photos of the work the staff do, to help the homeless, by offering them tokens to come to the shelter for some food, first aid help, guidance etc.
